Provinces in Canada have opportunities for workers without qualifications. Not all jobs require a degree or equivalent education.

Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan is one of the five provinces that welcome unskilled workers with open arms and currently has over 12 000 vacancies for unskilled workers.

The two main types of unskilled jobs in Saskatchewan are:

Transportation:

  • Mechanics

Manufacturing:

  • Extraction workers

British Columbia

NOC Codes

NOC stands for National Occupation Classification. In Canada, the government uses this classification system to determine the skill level of various jobs. Every job is categorized as skilled, low-skilled, or unskilled based on its NOC level or skill type.

Skill level indicates the amount of training or education needed for a particular job. Skill type refers to the broader sector or industry to which your job belongs.

NOC Skill Levels

There are four NOC skill levels that are classified as either A, B, C ro D.

A These occupations require a degree and university-level education
B These jobs require college-level education and apprenticeship training
C These occupations require secondary school-level education with job-specific training
D This type of work require only on-the-job training

NOC Skill Type Categories

Skill type categories range from 0 – 9 and there are ten categories in total:

0 – Management positions

1 – Administrative, business, and financial jobs

2 – Applied science, natural science, and related jobs

3 – Health-related jobs (nurses, doctors etc.)

4 – Social, government service, education, law, and community-driven jobs

5 – Recreational jobs such as cultural, artistic, and sports-related occupations

6 – Service and sales-oriented jobs

7 – Trading, equipment operation , transportation jobs

8 – Natural resource, agricultural, and production-driven jobs

9 – Manufacturing and utility-oriented jobs

1. The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

If you have an existing job offer and you are looking to immigrate to Canada then this is the best-suited option for you. There are 11 Provincial Nomination Programs in Canada:

  • Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)
  • British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP)
  • Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP)
  • New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NW PNP)
  • Newfoundland & Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NL PNP)

2. The Rural And Northern Immigration Pilot

In Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia, there are 11 cities and towns that joined forces to hire foreign workers through the Rural And Northern Immigration Pilot.

To participate in this program, you need a job offer from a Canadian employer and must be ready to move to any of the five provinces mentioned.

3. The Atlantic Immigration Pilot

This pilot applies to four Atlantic provinces: Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. To apply, you must have a valid job offer and one year of work experience in a related field.

4. Agri-Food Immigration Pilot

The Agri-Food Immigration Pilot started in 2020 because there weren’t enough workers for farming and animal production in Canada. This program lets foreign workers work in those sectors in Canada. To be eligible, you need to meet certain requirements like language skills, money, and education. The most important requirement is having at least one year of experience in a job like the one you want to apply for, but it shouldn’t be limited to seasonal work.

5. Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP)

This program was made for Canadian businesses to employ foreign workers in various jobs. To hire you, a Canadian employer needs to prove that they couldn’t find a Canadian resident to fill the job by showing a document called Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). The foreign worker you hire must include a LMIA number when applying for a work permit.
